Göransson takes commanding victory in race 1

Richard Göransson is back. Starting from pole position, the WestCoast Racing star dominated the first race at Gelleråsen and took his 36th STCC victory, thereby reclaiming the record for most victories.
”I had a fantastic race. I’ve been enjoying driving here all weekend and I had a nice gap in the race. I was never worried. It’s been going our way so far this weekend and now we’re back where we left off in Jutland.”
This victory means that Richard is up to 6th place in the championship and he’s set his sights on another good result for race number 2.
”It should be possible to climb from 8th on the grid this afternoon. It’s going to be a tough race, but we’re strong today. Now I’m going to celebrate my 36th victory in STCC”
Martin Öhlin also put in a strong effort and was able to go from 10th to 7th in the race. This means he will be starting the second race from the front row.
”This could be good,” Martin says. ”If I can just survive the start and the first curve, it should be possible to get a really good result. As expected the car was great in the race and it looks promising for the next race.”
Victory, seventh place and another car on the front row for race 2. Team manager Dick Jönsson Wigroth breathed a sigh of relief after this season’s best result for the team.
”Absolutely wonderful! Our first pole since 2008 and Richard is on it right now. We’re back after Jutland and that feels great. Martin also drove a perfect race, claimed important points and secured a starting position on the front row for race 2. I think it will be an exciting race.”
